EUROCAROTEN 3rd MC & 2nd WG Meeting

COST Action CA15136 ‐ European network to advance carotenoid research and applications in agro‐food and health ‐ EUROCAROTEN

On 13-14 February 2017, 44 participants from 25 countries met in Skopje, Macedonia, for the 3rd MC and 2nd WG meeting within the European CAROTENOID Cost Action network.

The goal of EUROCAROTEN is to enhance competitiveness of the European agro‐food industry and promote health by coordinating research on carotenoids. It contributes to strengthening Europe´s research and innovation capacities by creation of this transnational network to bring together and drive carotenoid research in Europe.
Within this meeting three invited lectures were delivered related to the main topic of the Action: “Food, cancer and Foodomics: Recent results” by Alejandro Cifuentes (CIAL-UAM-CSIC, Spain); “Plant new breeding techniques and their regulatory status” by Kostlend Mara (INRA Versailles, France), and “Astaxanthin – From academic lab to commercial product” by Peter Sylvander (Astareal, Sweden).
During the working groups meetings the work progress on the tasks foreseen within this action have been reported and further activities discussed. At the final Management Committee meeting decisions have been made related to promotion of more scientific activities at conferences, workshop on sustainable production of carotenoids, training on bioavailability of carotenoids, short term scientific missions, as well as decisions on the action budget, enrolment of new members in the action and dissemination.
