THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CAROTENOIDS
Registration and abstract submission are open...
- - Investigations of photochemical degradation and transport of different organic pollutants in the aquatic environment; I focused on the study of the degradation of organophosphate and neonicotinoid insecticides, transformations of statins as well as UV filters, used for the protection against UV radiation. Some of the compounds photochemically react and are converted into more toxic products we have identified by GC-MS or LC-MS.
- Investigation of transformation and identification of different UV filters under disinfection conditions (mainly swimming pools), where chlorinated products are formed; this research is linked to the sunscreens, containing different antioxidants, which act as photoprotection compounds, but at the same time can also form toxic photoproducts and allergens; additional link is to the aging processes;
- Investigations of developing new organic UV filters emulsions to increase the efficacy of sunscreens with the addition of compounds with antioxidant properties and encapsulated of UV filters; link to carotenes
- Toxicity assessment of various organic compounds and nanoparticles for selected non-target organisms in the aquatic and terrestrial environments; we test a variety of compounds which interact in the environment by human activities, and affects the target as well as non-target organisms (terrestrial isopods Porcellio scaber, aquatic crustaceans Gammarus fossarum and yeast cells)
