Short research description: 

Marisa Porrini is full professor in Applied Nutrition at the Department of Food, Environmental and Nutritional Sciences of the University of Milan. Since 1980 she has been involved in national and international research projects, collaborating with numerous international Universities and Research Institutes. She is the Head of the Department of Food, Environmental and Nutritional Sciences and has been Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Milan. She has been vice president of SINU (Italian Society of Human Nutrition) and Member of the Board of Directors of FENS (Federation of European Nutrition Societies). Her research interests focus on two main topics: the nutritional quality of food with particular emphasis on the characterization of traditional foods and the development of new functional foods; the study of the effect of different dietary patterns and components on specific metabolic functions and human health. In particular, special attention has been devoted to the role of dietary bioactives in the modulation of oxidative stress, inflammation and endothelial function by both in vitro and in vivo studies. Another topic of research relates to the study of the roles played by food characteristics on appetite and eating behaviour. She is author of more than 140 papers on peer-reviewed journals, 22 reviews and books and more than 250 abstracts.
