THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CAROTENOIDS
Registration and abstract submission are open...
My area of interest is related to postharvest physiology and fruit quality. Our research projects are focused on two main objectives: 1) understanding metabolic pathways of quality components in Citrus fruits and 2) physiological and molecular responses of citrus fruits to abiotic stresses affecting fruits quality during postharvest. Our attention is mainly devoted to Citrus fruits, since is the major crop in our region and country, and also for the relevant in our daily food intake. Research in carotenoid biosynthesis and accumulation, mainly in fruits, is one of the main objectives in our laboratory. Our research covers physiological and molecular strategies to understand the mechanistic aspect of the accumulation of specific carotenoids in citrus, but also its regulation, environmental effects, etc. We have incorporated to our programs genetic and genomics strategies in order to understand the biological and genetic basis of the diversity in coloration in Citrus fruits. Other metabolic aspects of components related to fruit quality, as ascorbic acid, volatiles, etc. have been also addressed in our projects. We have strong collaborations with other colleagues and research groups around the world, especially but not exclusively, from Citrus-producing countries. As results of these collaborations, we have been involved and are interested, in fruit quality in other fruits, carotenoid metabolism in foods, nutritional and metabolic aspects of carotenoid for nutrition and health; biotechnological strategies for carotenoid biosynthesis and accumulation. As a postharvest laboratory, we are also facing other issues related to quality of Citrus fruits, physiological and molecular responses to postharvest stress conditions (chilling injury, water stress, etc.).
